Abstract:
Provided are a printing device and a method for controlling the print speed of the printing device with which printing time can be shortened while maintaining print quality. This printing device 2 is characterized in that: the printing device is provided with a printing unit 22 for printing using a line-type print head, a conveyance unit 25 for conveying a print medium along a conveyance path onto which the print head faces, a region-detecting unit 23 for analyzing print data and detecting non-printing regions, which are regions that will not become the object of printing actions by the print head, and a conveyance-controlling unit 24 for controlling the conveyance speed when a non-printing region passes by the print head so as to be faster than the conveyance speed when a printing region, which is a region other than the non-printing regions, passes by the print head; and the conveyance-controlling unit 24 performs acceleration/deceleration control in at least a portion of the time that non-printing regions pass by the print head and performs constant speed control while the other printing regions pass by the print head.
