Abstract:
In order to recognize in time discharge defects that could provoke a fire in power converters (2, 2a), in particular HVDC systems, a signal (S) obtained from the power converter (2, 2a) is subjected to a frequency analysis. When a defect-conditioned change in the freqency spectrum of the signal (S) is recognized, a defect indicating signal is generated. Non-characteristic harmonic fractions or interharmonic fractions of the frequency spectrum (FS) of the signal (S) are preferably examined. The frequency analysis may also be carried out by means of a fuzzy logic.
