Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for producing an olefin having 3 or more carbon atoms from ethane more conveniently and stably. Specifically disclosed is a process for producing an olefin, which comprises the steps of: thermally decomposing ethane in the presence of water vapor to yield an ethane decomposition gas, and cooling the ethane decomposition gas to a temperature of 600°C or lower to yield a cooled fraction; and contacting the cooled fraction with a catalyst comprising a middle-pore-size zeolite to yield a contact gas containing an olefin having 3 or more carbon atoms.
