Abstract:
[Problem] To extend the rolling fatigue life of a universal joint component such as a cross rolling component. [Solution] A production method for a universal joint component having a prior-austenite crystal grain size of 7-11 in accordance with JIS G0551, the method comprising subjecting a NiCrMo steel containing, in percentage by mass, not less than 0.10% but less than 0.30% of C, not less than 0.05% but less than 0.30% of Si, 0.20-1.00% of Mn, at most 0.015% of P, at most 0.015% of S, 1.50-2.00% of Cr, 0.10-0.50% of Mo, 2.50-4.00% of Ni, 0.01-0.03% of Al, and 0.005-0.015% of N to hot forging, normalizing, and tempering, and thereafter, to a γ conversion thermal treatment at 800-930°C for 1-100 hours for at least once. Before being subjected to the hot forging, the NiCrMo steel may contain, in percentage by mass, not less than 0.10% but less than 0.30% of Mo. The universal joint component can used as a component having a cross rolling part as a member of a universal joint.
