The present invention relates to a protection circuit for a power device which protects a power device from a surge by effectively discharging an SMPS power unit when a surge voltage or a surge current is applied through an AC power input terminal. The present invention comprises: a surge protection portion comprising first and second surge protectors, which are respectively connected in parallel between a live terminal, a neutral terminal, and a frame ground (FG) from among AC power input terminals, for forming first and second bypasses when the voltage level of AC power is at least a predetermined first operating voltage while clamping an output voltage with a second operating voltage, and a third surge protector, which is connected in parallel between the live terminal and the neutral terminal, for forming a third bypass when the voltage level of AC power is at least the predetermined first operating voltage; and an EMI filter portion, which is connected to the rear end of the surge protection portion, is provided with X-caps at the front end and at the rear end of a common mode choke (CMC), and which is provided with a Y-cap between the live terminal and the frame ground and between the neutral terminal and the frame ground.
