Abstract:
Disclosed are a radiation therapy dose verification apparatus and method using a patient-specific tumor-shaped scintillator. According to the present invention, a radiation therapy dose verification apparatus is provided, the apparatus comprising: a probe adapter to which a three-dimensional tumor-shaped scintillator having a guide is attached; an accommodation part to which the probe adapter is detachably coupled; a light guide which extends from the accommodation part and comprises an optical fiber for transmitting visible light generated by irradiation within the three-dimensional tumor-shaped scintillator; a photomultiplier tube which converts the visible light transmitted from the light guide into an electrical signal and amplifies the electrical signal; an electrometer which measures an output current using the electrical signal of the photomultiplier tube as an input; and a processor which is connected to a memory for storing program instructions, calculates a dose absorbed by the three-dimensional tumor-shaped scintillator when irradiated with a plurality of calibration shots through Monte-Carlo simulation, determines a calibration factor for converting the output current into the dose, and calculates, using the determined calibration factor, the total dose absorbed by the three-dimensional tumor-shaped scintillator by irradiation used in a treatment plan.
