CLAIMS 1- A door profile (1 ) incorporating a modular door hinge (2) installed to rear doors of tailgates of trailers, semi-trailers and trucks that are used for road haulage, with the following features;

• a hinge extension (2.1 ) installed on the said door hinge (2) body,

• a mounting slot (1.1.1 ) housing the door hinge (2) extension (2.1 ),

• fasteners (4) securing the door hinge (2) to the door profile (1 ) body (1.1 ).

2- The door profile (1 ) of Claim 1 incorporating lug gaps (1.1.3) on the inlet opening (1.1.4) of mounting slot (1.1.1 ) of the profile body (1.1 ).

3- The door profile (1 ) of Claim 1 incorporating door side blanking piece (3) mounted on lug gaps (1.1.3) to secure the door hinge (2).

4- The door profile (1 ) of Claim 3 incorporating mounting lugs (3.1 ) housed on said lug gaps (1.1.3) and secured to said door side blanking piece (3). 5- The door profile (1 ) of Claim 1 incorporating an inlet opening (1.1.4) throughout the entire length with pores (1.1.6) on each side wall (1.1.5).

6- The door profile (1 ) of Claim 1 incorporating mounting holes (2.2) both on the door hinge (2) and the door profile (1 ) for installing the door hinge (2) to the door profile.

Rear Door Hinge Profile Structure for Trucks

Technical Field

The present invention relates to a rear door profile on which hinges on tailgates of trailers, semi-trailers and trucks that are used for road haulage are installed, and a modular rear door hinge.

Description of the Prior Art

Rear door profile on trailers, semi-trailers and trucks that are used for road haulage is one of the critical components facilitating installation of hinges on rear doors, to enable rear doors to function. Hinges are inserted to the profile or secured to the profile otherwise, forming a physical functional link with the rear door.

Currently, rear doors are secured to rear door hinge profile element on the tailgate from end to end with a rod, during installation of the rear door, on tarpaulin or curtain sided vehicles with concealed lock catches. This requires removal of the rear door from the vehicle and dismantling of most of its major components in order to install or remove the hinge from the rear door, making it highly laborious and costly to service rear door hinges.

The current art requires drains to be made on rear door hinge profile element to ensure functionality of rear door hinge. These drains eventually cause leakage problems. Furthermore making additional drains on otherwise solid profiles increase labor and manufacturing costs.

Currently rear door hinges are inserted to previously made drains on rear gate hinge profile and installed on the rear door by two fasteners, on Schmitz branded vehicles. Although this method is similar to the invention described herein, it has a different section and hinge insertion geometry compared to the rear door hinge profile of the present invention.

However, since the location of hinges vary for different rear door heights, the location of the drain on the profile where hinges are to be inserted must be changed, increasing stock management and manufacturing costs.

The technique implemented by the company Krone requires rear door hinge profile to be installed on the rear door hinge profile by three fasteners, through previously made drains on rear door hinge profile element. This method differs from the rear door hinge profile that constitutes the subject of the present invention with its profile section and insertion geometry. On the other hand, since the location of hinges vary for different rear door heights, the location of the drain on the profile where hinges are to be inserted must be changed, increasing stock management and manufacturing costs. This technique is highly similar to the technique used on Schmitz products.

Serin branded products also use the current art. Door hinge is secured to the door by two fasteners over a flange inserted to rear door hinge profile element through a duct. This method differs from the rear door hinge profile that constitutes the subject of the present invention with its profile section and hinge insertion geometry.

In the current art, since the hinge is secured to the door edge over a flange, it is not located close to the center of gravity of the door, preventing the door from functioning smoothly and freely. In this new structure that constitutes the subject of the present invention, the door hinge profile element allows the door hinge to penetrate further into the door, overcoming this problem.

On the other hand, securing the door to the vehicle merely at its edge negatively affects the strength of the door against loose cargo loads. The present invention increases the strength of the door significantly with the hinge penetrating into the door and being secured on the side with four fasteners.

Background of Invention Objective of the present invention is to introduce a breakthrough new technique compared to door hinge profiles used in the current art.

The specific objective of the invention is to eliminate the complexity caused by securing the hinge to the door with a rod and various other components in the current art. The present invention makes it possible to install or remove the hinge without removing the door from the vehicle and dismantling it. Another objective of the present invention is to modularize the hinge with a view to enhancing its serviceability. A further objective of the present invention is to insert the hinge into the door and then to secure it to the door with four fasteners rather than attaching it to the door with a rod. This provides a practical solution with tremendous strength.

A further objective of the present invention is to eliminate the drains that are made on the profile depending on the height of the door to insert the hinges in the current art, to reduce labor costs and manufacturing time.

One other objective of the present invention is to remove the drains that are made on the profile in the current art to enable the hinge to rotate bi-axially to fulfill its function, with a view to eliminating leakage problem.

The present invention includes following components to fulfill the objectives described in the foregoing;

• Hinge extension installed on the hinge body,

• Mounting slot housing the hinge extension,

· Fasteners securing the door hinge to the door profile body.

4 Fastener Detailed Description of Invention

Diagram-1 depicts a door profile (1 ) including a modular door hinge (2) installed on tailgates of trailers, semi-trailers and trucks that are used for road haulage is provided in Diagram-1. The said door hinge (2) incorporates a hinge extension (2.1 ) on its body, a mounting slot (1.1.1 ) where the door hinge (2) extension (2.1 ) is located and fasteners (4) securing the said door hinge (2) to the door profile (1 ) body (1.1) (Please see Diagram-4).

Diagram-3 depicts lug gaps (1.1.3) on inlet opening (1.1.4) on the mounting slot (1.1.1 ) of the profile body (1.1 ) and door side blanking piece (3) that is installed on these lug gaps (1.1.3) to secure the door hinge (2). On the other hand, mounting lugs (3.1 ) are fitted to these lug gaps (1.1.3) on the said door side blanking piece (3). Additionally, pores (1.1.6) are created on the side walls (1.1.5) on both sides of inlet opening (1.1.4). In addition, mounting holes (2.2) are provided both on the door hinge (2) and the door profile (1 ) for installing the door hinge (2) to the door profile (1 ).

Door hinge (2) is located on the mounting slot (1.1.1 ) provided on the inlet opening (1.1.4) of the door profile (1) body (1.1 ). As it can be seen on the drawings the mounting slot (1.1.1 ) is a gap running through the entire length of the profile body (1.1 ). Door hinges (2) are installed on this slot running through the entire length of the profile body (1.1 ). This mounting slot (1.1.1 ) provides a modular structure to facilitate installation and removal of the hinges (2). Once the door hinge (2) is positioned on the mounting slot (1.1.1 ), it is secured on the mounting side (1.1.2) by fasteners (4). Fasteners (4), preferably with a domed structure at their upper and lower ends, facilitate design and use. After door hinge (2) is positioned in the mounting slot (1.1.1 ), it is covered by the door side blanking piece (3) on the inlet opening side (1.1.4). This blanking piece not only covers the area but it also provides design integrity. Lug gaps (1.1.3) are provided on inlet opening (1.1.4) side of the door profile (1 ) to allow installation of the door side blanking piece (3) on the door profile (1 ). These lug gaps (1.1.3) are used for securing and installing the piece.
