Abstract:
According to the present invention, motor cooling is made uniform, localized increases in the temperature of the motor are suppressed, and the operating range when the rotational speed is increased or decreased by means of inverter drive is increased. Refrigerant flow passages through which a refrigerant is caused to flow in a direction along the axial direction of a rotating shaft of a screw rotor are provided around the rotating shaft. A refrigerant flow passage provided between a motor chamber and a compressing mechanism includes a nearby refrigerant flow passage which is close to the compressing mechanism, and a distant refrigerant flow passage which is further away from the compressing mechanism than is the nearby refrigerant flow passage. The cross-sectional area of the nearby refrigerant flow passage as seen in a cross section orthogonal to the axial direction of the rotating shaft is less than the cross-sectional area of the distant refrigerant flow passage.
