Abstract:
A reverse parking support system for the semi-trailer (9) that is coupled to the tow truck (8) which is a highway vehicle, wherein it includes at least one camera (4) which is located at the rear of the semi-trailer (9) and which captures the image; at least one distance sensor (5) which detects the objects located at the rear area of the semi-trailer (9) and the distances that they are present; at least one image processing module (2) which determines the steering angle in conformity with the data coming from the camera (4) and distance sensor (5); at least one wheel angle sensor (3) which is located over the said tow truck (8) and which measures the angle of the wheels; at least one tow truck control unit (6) which receives and processes the data coming from the said wheel angle sensor; and at least one control unit (1) which guides the driver by means of the visual warning system (7) by comparing the data which it receives from the said image processing module (2) and tow truck control unit (6) through wheel angle sensor (3). The invention also includes the related method.

Claims:
CLAIMS

1. A reverse parking support system for the semi-trailer (9) that is coupled to the tow truck (8) which is a highway vehicle including;

• at least one camera (4) located at the rear of the said semi-trailer (9) and capturing the image,

• at least one distance sensor (5) which detects the objects located at the rear area of the said semi-trailer (9) and the distances that they are present,

• at least one image processing module (2) which determines the steering angle in conformity with the data coming from the said camera (4) and distance sensor (5),

• at least one wheel angle sensor (3) which is located over the said tow truck (8) and measures the angle of the wheels,

• at least one tow truck control unit (6) which receives and processes the data from the said wheel angle sensor,

• at least one control unit (1) which guides the driver by means of a visual warning system (7) by comparing the data which it receives from the said image processing module (2) and control unit (6) through wheel angle sensor (3).

2. A reverse parking support method for the semi-trailer (9) whose cargo is pulled by being coupled to the tow truck (8) which is a highway vehicle including the operational steps of;

• transmitting the data obtained by means of the distance sensor (5) and the camera (4) that are placed at the rear of the semi-trailer (9) during backing up to the image processing module (2),

• calculation of the appropriate steering angle in the image processing module (2) and transmitting it to the control unit (1),

• measuring the wheel angles of the tow truck (8) by means of the wheel angle sensor (3) and transmitting them to the tow truck control unit (6),

• guiding the driver by means of the visual warning system (7) by comparing the data which comes from the image processing module (2) and wheel angle sensor (3) and tow truck control unit (6) by means of the control unit (1 ), • repeating the same operations for the new wheel when the appropriate angle value changes while the tow truck (8) and semi-trailer (9) approach in the reverse direction.

Description:
SEMI-TRAILER REVERSE PARKING SUPPORT SYSTEM AND METHOD TECHNICAL FIELD

The invention relates to reverse parking support system and method which support trailers or semi-trailers that are generally used in highway transportation by reverse drive control systems because of the blind spots originating from their large sizes, and reverse parking support system which enables safe driving medium.

The invention especially relates to semi-trailer reverse parking support system and method in which the image is processed and the driver is notified about the correct steering angle after scanning of the rear of the semi-trailer.

PRIOR ART

Nowadays, semi-trailers are highway vehicles which are designed for carrying cargo and goods, towed by a tow truck, being engineless and having special electro- pneumatic control units. These engineless vehicles have kinds according to the cargo that they carry. The semi-trailer can move more flexibly at turns by being coupled to the tow truck by a rotary table and can decrease the turning radius. Semi-trailers are one of the most difficult to control vehicles during their parking. These vehicles cannot be parked by fast maneuvers while being parked. The fact that they move opposite to the direction which the steering wheel has been turned makes them difficult to park. Therefore, it is necessary to park slowly by observing each movement of the vehicle. In situations where they are parked in the reverse direction, they cannot move in the same direction because the tow truck and the semi-trailer are coupled to each other by a movable system. When the tow truck moves to the right, the semi-trailer changes its direction to the left and vice versa. In this situation, the driver cannot see all areas which he moves to and accident risk occurs. In the present technique applications, there are cameras for rear view. Rear view cameras display on the screen in the driver cabin by scanning only the rear area of the vehicle. Existing systems cannot provide support and direction to the driver for steering. Also, existing systems cannot scan the entire backing up area.

From the present technique documents, application numbered TR 2012/00761 discloses a system which defines the front and rear limits of the parking area parallel to the road with respect to the body of the vehicle, and which provides aid to the driver in the reverse maneuver to park the vehicle parallel to the direction of the road at the road edge. In this invention, the rear view is detected and displayed and reference is provided to the relevant driver related to the longitudinal and transverse position according to the obstacles to start reverse parking maneuvering. However, in this invention, sensors to warn the driver have not been used, and the driver is not provided with support for steering description.

In another application document numbered CN107856673 (A) in prior art, two wide- angle cameras for reverse parking and an auxiliary system comprising two distance sensors are disclosed. In this invention, the driver is provided with easement in parking by giving warning via the camera and the sensor. However, support is not provided to the driver for steering description in this invention too.

Consequently, developments are sought in semi-trailer reverse parking support system and methods; therefore, there exists a need for new configurations which will eliminate the disadvantages mentioned above and provide solutions to existing systems.

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a semi-trailer reverse parking support system and method which meet the requirements mentioned above, which eliminate all disadvantages and which provide some additional advantages. The main object of the invention is to present a reverse parking support system and method which provide steering support to the driver by processing the view by scanning rear area of the semi-trailer via sensor and camera. Another object of the invention is to present a reverse parking support system and method that provide prevention of accidents originating from reverse parking.

In order to accomplish all advantages mentioned above and to be understood from the detailed description below, the invention is a reverse parking support system for the semi-trailer that is coupled to the tow truck which is a highway vehicle including

• at least one camera which is located at the rear of the said semi-trailer and which captures the image,

• at least one distance sensor which detects the objects located at the rear area of the said semi-trailer and the distances that they are present,

• at least one image processing module which determines the steering angle in conformity with the data coming from the said camera and distance sensor,

• at least one wheel angle sensor which is located over the said tow truck and measures the angle of the wheels,

• at least one tow truck control unit which receives and processes the data from the said wheel angle sensor,

• at least one control unit which directs the user by means of the visual warning system by comparing the data which it receives from the said image processing module and wheel angle sensor and control unit

The invention is also a reverse parking support method for the semi-trailer whose cargo is pulled by being coupled to the tow truck which is a highway vehicle and includes the operational steps of; · transmitting the data obtained by means of the distance sensor and the camera that are placed at the rear of the semi-trailer during backing up to the image processing module,

• calculation of the appropriate steering angle in the image processing module and transmitting it to the control unit, • measuring the wheel angles of the tow truck by means of the wheel angle sensor and transmitting them to the tow truck control unit,

• guiding the driver by means of the visual warning system by comparing the data which comes from the image processing module and wheel angle sensor and tow truck control unit,

• repeating the same operations for the new wheel angle when the appropriate angle value changes while the tow truck and semi-trailer approach in the reverse direction

The structural and characteristic features of the invention and all of its advantages will be more clearly understood thanks to the figures given below and the detailed description written by referring to these figures. Therefore, the evaluation must be made by considering those figures and the detailed description.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF FIGURES

The present invention must be evaluated together with the figures whose explanation is given below in order to understand the configuration and its advantages in the best way. Figure 1 is the general connection view of the semi-trailer reverse parking support system of the invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

In this detailed description, the semi-trailer reverse parking support system of the invention and preferred embodiments of its method are described for a better understanding of the subject matter and so as not to cause any limiting effect.

Figure 1 is the general connection view of the semi-trailer reverse parking support system of the invention. The system basically consists of a semi-trailer (9) that is coupled to the tow truck (8) which is a highway vehicle; at least one wheel angle sensor (3) which detects the standstill angle of the wheels of the tow truck (8); at least one distance sensor (5) which detects other objects located at the rear area of the semi-trailer (9) and the distances that they are present; at least one camera (4) which is located at the rear of the semi-trailer (9) and which captures the image; an image processing module (2) which determines the steering angle in conformity with the data coming from the camera (4) and distance sensor (5); at least one tow truck control unit (6) which receives and processes the data coming from the said wheel angle sensor (3); at least one control unit (1) which notifies the user of the appropriate steering angle by means of the visual warning system (7) by comparing the data which it receives from the said image processing module (2) and wheel angle sensor (3) and tow truck control unit (6).

In the semi-trailer reverse parking support method, the data obtained from the distance sensor (5) and the camera (4) located at the rear of the semi-trailer (9) is transmitted to the data image processing module, during reverse driving. The image is transmitted to the control unit (1) by calculating the appropriate steering angle in the processing module (2). Likewise, the wheel angle of the tow truck is transmitted to the control unit (1) via the wheel angle sensor (3) and tow truck control unit (6). The control unit transmits the directional information about the steering angle to be applied to the visual warning system (7). The driver adjusts the wheel angle according to the information in the visual warning system (7). The appropriate angle will change after the adjustment of the wheel angle when the driver moves in the reverse direction. The same operations are repeated for the new wheel angle when the appropriate angle value changes while the tow truck (8) and semi-trailer (9) approach in the reverse direction. The operation of finding the appropriate wheel angle continues until the vehicle is parked.
