Abstract:
Short-haul escape system (10) includes line (12) for detechable suspension from support member (20) on airborne vehicle (22), load-carrying receptacle (24) attached to end (12B) of line (12), container (16) attachable to airborne vehicle (22) in proximity to support member (20) and releasably stowing parachute (14) such that parachute (14) can be pulled from container (16), and flexible strap (18) attached to parachute (14) stowed in container (16) and extending from container (16) and extending from container (16) and secured to line (12) such that upon detaching line (12) from support member (20) of airborne vehicle (22), which will cause line (12) and receptacle (24) to fall away from airborne vehicle (22), flexible strap (18) will pull parachute (14) from container (16) so that parachute (14) can inflate ans slow the fall of line (12) and receptacle (24) to a soft landing.
