Abstract:
A protective sports garment includes a device adapted to overlay an anatomical region likely to experience a concentrated load such as a shoulder, knee or elbow joint. The device includes a base resting on an anatomical region, and a cap responsive for controlled displacement towards the base in response to the external loads. These loads may encompass both force and torque, as the load may tend to exert in different directions. The base rests on the joint area or anatomical surface to be protected. This may be part of a larger assembly such as a shoulder pad set, catcher's pad assembly, or other integration of protective sports gear defining a surrounding garment or textile assembly such as a pad set. The cap is tethered or suspended around the base for controlled, force dispersed displacement toward the base and may include a "sandwiched" structure of additional compressible material.
