Provided is a technique that allows for improved operator convenience in the case of switching the operation mode of a shovel. A shovel 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure comprises: an operation mode setting unit 302 that selectively sets, in accordance with an input to an operation mode change switch 32 from a user, one operation mode to be used from among a plurality of operation modes having different output properties related to the operation of the shovel 100; a mode level setting unit 303 that selectively sets, in accordance with an input to a mode level adjusting dial 34 from the user, one level to be used in the one operation mode from among a plurality of levels of output related to the operation of the shovel 100 and defined for each of the plurality of operation modes; and a storage unit 304 that stores, when the one operation mode is switched by the operation mode setting unit 302, the one level set in the one operation mode before the switching in association with the one operation mode before the switching.
