Abstract:
A silver halide photographic material which can form high-contrast images by treatment with a stable developer. The material contains at least one compound rep-resented by the general formula (I) or (II). General formula (I): wherein X represents an optionally substituted aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group; R<sb>1</sb> represents hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, aryloxy or amino; and R<sb>2</sb> and R<sb>3</sb> may be the same or different from each, other and each represents an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group, provided that R<sb>1</sb>, R<sb>2</sb> and R<sb>3</sb>, which may be substituted, may be combined together to represent a cyclic group. General formula (II): wherein X represents an optionally substituted aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group; Y represents -O-, -NR<sb>3</sb>-, -S-, -SO-, -SO<sb>2</sb>- or -CO-; and R<sb>1</sb>, R<sb>2</sb> and R<sb>3</sb> may be the same or different from one another and each represents an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group, or R<sb>1</sb> and R<sb>3</sb> may represent each hydrogen, provided that R<sb>1</sb>, R<sb>2</sb> and R<sb>3</sb>, which may be substituted, may be combined &apos together to represent a cyclic group, and that when R<sb>1</sb> and R<sb>2</sb> are combined together to represent a cyclic group, one of them may represent a single bond.
