Abstract:
The present invention provides: a solid catalyst which is used when ammonia and a methylation agent are reacted with each other so as to suppress the generation of trimethyl amine, while ensuring a suitable conversion rate of the methylation agent, thereby efficiently producing monomethyl amine with high selectivity; and a method for producing this solid catalyst. The present invention provides a method for producing a solid catalyst that has a specific surface area of 4 to 60 m2/g and is composed of a mordenite type zeolite, the method comprising: a mixing step in which a starting material mordenite and a solution, which has been obtained by dissolving a basic salt into a solvent, are mixed so as to obtain a mixed liquid; an evaporative drying step in which the mixed liquid is evaporated to dryness so as to obtain a solution-treated mordenite; and a calcining step in which the solution-treated mordenite is calcined. It is preferable that the crystallinity of this solid catalyst is 80% or more.
