Abstract:
The invention relates to a fire extinguishing technique and can be used for preventing fire and explosion in the incipient stage of indoor and outdoor emergencies and for extinguishing flammable material fires. A solid foam fire extinguishing method includes preparing a foamed silica gel in the form of a fast-hardening foam by mixing an aqueous solution of a mixture containing 10-70 wt% sodium silicate, 1-15 wt% foam-forming surfactant and the remainder water, with a 20-60% aqueous solution of acetic acid. A device for preventing fire and explosion and for extinguishing fires using solid foam comprises reservoirs containing fire extinguishant components, pipes for said components, a means for mixing said components, and a means for foaming the mixture of said components. The device is designed to be capable of producing a fire extinguishant that is a foamed silica gel in the form of a fast-hardening foam produced by mixing and foaming a mixture of an alkali metal silicate and a foam-forming surfactant with an aqueous solution of acetic acid, in which the ratio of the components is from 15:1 to 6:1. The result is an increase in the operational reliability of fire extinguishing means and in the efficiency of fire extinguishing and fire and explosion prevention processes.
