Abstract:
An embodiment of the present invention discloses a sports bat made of soft material used in ball sports like cricket etc. for skill development of the players. The sports bat of the present invention comprises a body with a hitting portion and a holding portion. The body is made of a first material and internally reinforced with an insert made of a second material such that the first material is different than the second material. The density of the second material is greater than the first material, and/or the stiffness of the second material is greater than the first material.

Claims:
Claims A sports bat comprising a body with a hitting portion and a holding portion, wherein the body is made of a first material and internally reinforced with an insert made of a second material such that the first material is different than the second material, and wherein the density of the second material is greater than the first material, and/or the stiffness of the second material is greater than the first material. The sports bat as claimed in claim 1 , wherein at least one of the hitting portion and the holding portion of the body includes a channel to receive the insert. The sports bat as claimed in claim 2, wherein the channel is of any shape and/or variable size to receive one or more inserts of that shape and/or size. The sports bat as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the insert is reinforced. The sports bat as claimed in claim 1, wherein the inserts reinforced within the body can be of variable shape, variable size and variable material. The sports bat as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the body includes plurality of inserts spaced from each other. The sports bat as claimed in claim 1, wherein the body includes a plurality of slits gaps on at least one of the side surfaces of the body to form a flexible structure that deforms when hit by a ball.

TITLE

A Sports Bat

FIELD OF DISCLOSURE

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a sports bat, and more particularly, to the practice sports bat made of soft material used in ball sports like cricket etc. for skill development of the players.

BACKGROUND

[0002] Skill development plays an important role in sports for improving gaming of the players. In cricket, skill development majorly involves improving batting, bowling and catching skills of the player. Currently, wooden bats are used for practicing cricket, however, usage of wooden bats may not provide adequate feedback to the player i.e. where exactly the ball has hit the bat. As an alternate option, certain bats made of materials other than wood are also available in the market for practicing cricket. These bats may lack stiffness and/or strength, and therefore, may wobble at times when the ball hits the bat.

[0003] Therefore, there is a need of a sports bat that overcome above mentioned problem and can be used for practicing sports like cricket to enhance the skills of the players.

SUMMARY

[0005] An embodiment of the present invention discloses a sports bat comprising a body with a hitting portion and a holding portion, wherein the body is made of a first material and internally reinforced with an insert made of a second material such that the first material is different than the second material, and wherein the density of the second material is greater than the first material, and/or the stiffness of the second material is greater than the first material to provide stiffness, strength or hardness to the sports bat.

[0006] An embodiment of the present invention discloses that at least one of the hitting portion and the holding portion of the body includes a channel to receive the insert.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0030] An embodiment of the present invention discloses a sports bat used in ball sports like cricket etc. for skill development of the players. In an exemplary embodiment, the sports bat may include a body made of first material or soft materials including but not limited to elastomers like polyurethane, rubber, nylon or the like. The sports bat made of soft materials though provides feedback to the player as it deforms when hit by the ball but also wobbles. The sports bat of the present invention includes an insert which may be internal, and therefore acts as a backbone to overcome wobble issues. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the insert may provide stiffness to the sports bat as it may be harder and stiffer in characteristics to avoid wobbling of the bat when the bat hits the ball. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the insert may of different shaped, varying sizes and different material. The specification below discloses different exemplary embodiments of inserts or one or more inserts with different shape, varying sizes and of different materials, and also a combination of these.

[0031] In another exemplary embodiment, the sports bat may include a body which further includes a holding portion and a hitting portion. In another exemplary embodiment, the holding portion and the hitting portion of the body may include a channel to receive an insert. The channel enables to reinforce the body of the sports bat any time after the bat is manufactured. In order to overcome the wobbling situation of the sports bat made of soft material, the insert is reinforced within the body. [0033] Figure 1 discloses an exemplary embodiment of the invention, depicting different views of a sports bat 100 made of elastomers. In an exemplary embodiment, the sports bat 100 includes a body which includes a holding portion 114 and a hitting portion 112. The Figure 1 shows different views of the sports bat 100 made of soft material like elastomer. The views include side view, front view, back view, top view and the bottom view. The sports bat 100 made of elastomers are low in density and therefore, deforms when hit by the ball. The deformation of the hitting portion 112 evidences where exactly the ball the hit the bat and therefore, giving feedback.

[0034] Figure 2 discloses an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, depicting different views of the sports bat 100 with a round pipe as an insert 130. In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the body of the sports bat 100 may be reinforced with an insert 130. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the insert 100 may be made of plastic or iron depending on the requirement of the sports bat 100. Likewise, other materials can be used for insert 100.

[0036] In yet another exemplary embodiment, the insert may be of any shape or size or material. For example, Figure 2 shows the round pipe shaped insert 130 which may be hollow from inside. The round pipe shaped insert 130 is throughout the length of the body i.e. in both hitting portion 112 and the holding portion 114. Figure 2 shows different views of the sports bat with round shape insert reinforced within the body for easy reference. The views include side view, front view, back view, bottom view and the top view. The different views clearly show the round pipe or cylindrical shaped reinforced insert to provide stiffness, strength or hardness to the sports bat.

In another exemplary embodiment, the insert may be reinforced with fiber including but not limited to carbon fiber. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the hollow insert may be filled with a plastic material including but not limited to polyurethane, polyresin, or any other variant of the plastic material or any other material compound thereof. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the cylindrical shaped insert may be a pipe or rod including but not limited to Poly vinyl chloride (PVC) or Poly carbonate (PC).

In yet another exemplary embodiment, the pipe may be a cylindrical structure with hollow inside. The square shaped hollow pipe insert may be reinforced within the body of the sports bat 100 either at the time of manufacturing of the sports bat or may be provided later. Figure 3 shows different views of the sports bat with square shaped pipe or cylindrical insert like side view, front view, back view, top view and the bottom view. [0039] In yet another exemplary embodiment, the insert may be reinforced completely within the body of the sports bat, and may not be visible from outside. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the insert 130 may be reinforced within the body but may be visible from top and bottom side of the sports bat 100, as shown in Figures 2 and 3.

[0040] Figures 4 and 5 discloses an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, depicting different views of the sports bat 100 with a pipe as an insert 130 of varying width. In another exemplary embodiment, the width of the insert 130 may be variable across the length and/or width of the body. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the width of the insert 130 may be uniform or non-uniform in the body. For example, Figure 4 shows sports bat 100 with different width of the insert 130. The width of the insert 130, for example pipe, as shown in Figure 4, may be broader near the sweet spot and may be narrow at other parts of the hitting portion 112. In another exemplary embodiment, the empty pipe shaped or cylindrical insert may be broader between the sweet spot and the bottom of the sports bat 100, while the insert 130 at other places of the hitting portion 112 remains comparatively narrower. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the insert 130 may be narrow in the holding portion 114 and comparatively broader in the hitting portion 112.

[0041] In yet another exemplary embodiment, the hollow cylindrical insert or pipe shaped insert may be broader between the top end of the hitting portion 112 and the center of the hitting potion 112, as shown in Figure 5. In another exemplary embodiment, the insert 130 may be broader between the top end of the hitting portion 112 and the sweet spot, and thereafter, the width of the insert may be narrow. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the width of the insert may be broader in the holding portion near the hitting portion, example, as shown in Figure 5, the insert 130 is broader between the center of the holding portion 114 and the bottom of the holding portion 114. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the insert 130 may be broader near below the sweet spot and remains the same till the bottom of the hitting portion 112 of the body, as shown in Figure 5. [0042] Figure 6 discloses an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, depicting different views of the sports bat 100 with a pipe as an insert of varying sizes and quantity. In an exemplary embodiment, one or more cylindrical or pipe shaped hollow inserts 130 may be provided to reinforce the body of the sports bat. For example, as shown in Figure 6, the multiple hollow cylindrical or pipe shaped inserts may be provided in the channel of the body. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the size or length of each pipe shaped insert 130 may or may not be same. For example, as shown in one of the views of the sports bat shown in Figure 6, the length of the insert around the sweet spot may be larger than rest of the inserts. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the insert which is extending from the top end of the hitting portion 112 may be longer than the rest of the inserts 130, as shown in Figure 6. The insert 130 may extend till the sweet spot of the sports bat 100. In another exemplary embodiment, the body may have one pipe shaped hollow insert 130 to support the sweet spot and may have other inserts 130 before and/or after the sweet spot of the sports bat, as shown in Figure 6.

In yet another exemplary embodiment, the size or length of each insert may be different from each other. In yet another exemplary embodiment, there may be multiple pipe shaped hollow inserts at one location of the body i.e. the insert with smaller dimension may be inside the insert with larger dimension.

In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the body of the sports bat 100 may be reinforced with rod shaped insert 130. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the insert 130 may be round shaped and made of plastic or iron depending on the requirement of the sports bat. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the holding porting 114 may not include rod-shaped insert and the hitting portion may include the rod-shaped insert, or vice versa.

In another exemplary embodiment, the width of the rod-shaped insert 130 may be variable across the length and/or width of the body of the sports bat. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the rod-shaped insert 130 may be broader in width in the holding portion 114 near the hitting portion 112 and remains the same throughout the hitting portion 112, as shown in Figure 9. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the width of the rod-shaped insert 130 may be broader in the holding portion 114 and till middle of the hitting portion 112. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the rod-shaped insert 130 may be broader near or around the sweet spot and narrower in other parts of the body.

In an exemplary embodiment, one or more rod-shaped inserts 130 may be provided to reinforce the body of the sports bat 100. For example, as shown in Figure 10, the multiple rod-shaped inserts 130 may be provided in the channel 116 of the body. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the size or length of each rod-shaped insert 130 may or may not be same. For example, as shown in one of the views of the sports bat shown in Figure 10, the rod-shaped insert 130 may be provided around the sweet spot may not be provided on the rest of the body. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the rodshaped insert 130 may be provided which is extending between near the top end of the hitting portion 112 and the bottom end of the hitting portion 112, as shown in Figure 10. The rod-shaped insert 130 may be provided between the top end of the holding portion and extend till the sweet spot or near the sweet spot of the sports bat. In another exemplary embodiment, the body may have one rod- shaped insert 130 in the holding portion 114 which extends into the hitting portion, and another one near the sweet spot of the sports bat, as shown in Figure 10. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the hitting portion 112 may include one or more rod-shaped inserts 130. In case of multiple rod-shaped inserts, the inserts may be spaced from each other. [0053] In yet another exemplary embodiment, the holding portion of the body may include one or more rod-shaped shaped inserts. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the size or length of each rod-shaped insert may be different from each other.

[0054] Figure 11 discloses an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, depicting different views of the sports bat 100 with combination of rod and pipe shaped insert 130 of same or varying sizes. In an exemplary embodiment, the body of the sports bat may be reinforced with a combination of cylindrical or pipe shaped hollow insert with the rod-shaped insert 130. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the combination of the inserts may include different sizes of the insert 130 in terms of its length and/or width. For example, Figure 11 shows, rod-shaped insert 130 is provided around the sweet spot of the sports bat whereas the pipe shaped insert in the rest of the body. This may be advantageous to achieve density, stiffness or hardness to the sports bat, and also to parallelly attend the wobble issue. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the holding portion may be provided with rod- shaped insert which extends into the hitting portion 112 of the body. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the hitting portion 112 may include pipe shaped insert 130 till the middle and thereafter the insert may rod-shaped till the bottom end of the hitting portion. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the width of the rod-shaped insert from the middle of the hitting portion 112 till the bottom end of the hitting portion 112 may be broader than the pipe shaped insert which extends from the top end of the hitting portion 112 and further extends till the mid of the hitting portion 112. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the width of the rod-shaped insert 130 from the middle of the hitting portion 112 till the bottom end of the hitting portion 112 may be narrower than the pipe shaped insert 130 which is from the top end of the hitting portion 112 and extends till the middle of the hitting portion 112, as shown in Figure 11.

[0055] In yet another exemplary embodiment, the width of the rod-shaped insert may be broader near the sweet spot and till the bottom end of the hitting portion, than the pipe shaped insert of the hitting portion, as shown in Figure 11. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the length of the rod-shaped insert may be shorter than the length of the pipe shaped insert in the hitting portion, as shown in Figure 11. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the rod-shaped insert with broader width may be provided from the top end of the holding portion and extend into the hitting portion, thereafter a comparatively narrower pipe shaped insert may be provided till the bottom end of the hitting portion. Likewise, the length and/or width of the inserts may vary in any combination in the holding portion and/or hitting portion with or without gaps between them to provide numerous combinations as desired.

[0056] Figure 12 discloses an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, depicting different views of the sports bat 100 with channel of same or varying sizes. In an exemplary embodiment, the holding portion 114 and the hitting portion 112 of the body may include channel 116 to receive inserts 130. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the channel 116 may have varying width in the body. Figure 12 shows the sports bat 100 with a channel 116 that is uniform in width and structured to receive the insert of uniform width. The insert 130 may be of any size and of any material but of the shape of the channel 116. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the channel may receive one or more inserts such that the inserts may have or may not have gaps between them i.e. spaced from each other.

[0057] In yet another exemplary embodiment, the channel may be of different width and at different location of the body. For example, the width of the channel may be broader near the top end of the hitting portion till the sweet spot. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the channel may be broader between near the top end of the hitting portion and the middle of the hitting portion. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the width of the channel may be broader near the top end of the hitting portion till the bottom end of the hitting portion, as shown in Figure 12.

[0058] In yet another exemplary embodiment, the channel may not be extending from the top end of the holding portion to the bottom end of the hitting portion. For example, the channel may extend from the top end of the holding portion till the sweet spot of the hitting portion of the body. Likewise, many such combinations can be explored as per the need of the user.

[0059] Figure 13 discloses an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, depicting different views of the sports bat 100 with mesh shaped structure as an insert 130. In an exemplary embodiment, the insert 130 may be provided in the body of the sports bat 100 in longitudinal and/or latitudinal direction i.e. the insert 130 may be provided across the length and/or width of the body of the sports bat. For example, as shown in Figure 13, the mesh shaped insert 130 may be provided across the length of the hitting portion 112 and/or width of the hitting portion 112 of the body.
