Abstract:
Through the present invention, high machinability, yield strength, and fatigue strength, and excellent cracking properties are obtained. This steel material has a chemical composition comprising, in terms of % by mass, 0.10-0.60% C, 0.05-1.00% Si, 0.30-1.50% Mn, no more than 0.1000% P, no more than 0.3000% S, 0.003-0.100% Al, and no more than 0.0200% N, the remainder comprising Fe and impurities, and the chemical composition satisfying formula (1). The steel material contains more than 70.0% by mass of Al2O3, and the number density of inclusions for which √AREA is at least 3 µm is 0.05-1.00/mm2. (1): 9 ≤ 7.6√C × (1+0.6Si) × (1 + 4Mn) × (1 – 0.6S) × (1 + 0.3Cu) × (1 + 0.5Ni) × (1 + 2Cr) × (1 + 3Mo) × (1 + (1.5 × (0.9 – C) × fB)) ≤ 130. In formula (1), fB is "0" when the B content (% by mass) is 0%, and is "1" when the B content exceeds 0%.
