Abstract:
This invention provides a stereo camera device that is capable of distinguishing a distant obstacle (on-road obstacle) on the road, such as a solid object or pothole, from noise by distinguishing between road surface disparity and obstacle disparity and is thereby capable of quickly detecting the obstacle. This invention detects an on-road obstacle by estimating a road surface disparity, tracking a feature point on the road surface exhibiting a difference from the disparity across a plurality of frames, and analyzing whether the variation in the disparity of the feature point corresponds to the movement distance of a vehicle.
