Abstract:
According to the present invention, when calculating parallax information with higher resolution for a part of a high-resolution photographic image than for other portions, the appropriateness of selection of a region is improved, whereby high-reliability parallax information is calculated. Provided is a stereo image processing device that calculates the distance between a host vehicle and an obstacle in the external field of the host vehicle, wherein the stereo image processing device comprises: a photographic image memory that stores photographic images of the external field of the host vehicle, the images being continuously photographed by a plurality of cameras; a region evaluation unit that determines an evaluation value for each region in the photographic image on the basis of steering angle information and/or vehicle speed information for the host vehicle; and a parallax calculation unit that, for a plurality of latest images photographed by each of the plurality of cameras, calculates the parallax using a high number of pixels for regions for which the evaluation value determined by the region evaluation unit is relatively high, and calculates the parallax using a low number of pixels for regions for which the evaluation value determined by the region evaluation unit is relatively low.
