The purpose of the present invention is to provide a sterilized packaged rice production method and a container for sterilized packaged rice such that the reliability of sealing can be improved. After rice is placed in a container having an opening at an upper portion thereof and subjected to a pressurization heating treatment, water for cooking is added thereto and a film-like sealing member is bonded to a first annular region extending along the entire circumferential surface of a rim section of the container in order to seal the container (first sealing) and cook the rice. Due to the pressure in the container when the rice is cooking, the bonded container rim section and sealing member are separated at any location of the first annular region to release the pressure in the container. Next, a steaming step is performed while the container remains covered with the sealing member. Subsequently, the sealing member is bonded to a second annular region which extends along the entire circumferential surface of the rim section of the container and is different from the first annular region in order to sealthe container (second seal).
