Abstract:
In this surface-coated cutting tool: a hard coating layer is provided to the surface of a tool base body comprising a WC-based cemented carbide having WC particles as a hard phase component and Co as a bonding phase main component; an interface layer containing W, Cr, Co, and C is formed between the tool base body and the hard coating layer; a low-Co-containing region having a Co content of 0.1-2.5 mass% is formed in the interface layer from directly above the WC particles to a thickness position that is halfway through the interface layer in the layer thickness direction; a low-C-containing region having a C content of 0.1-0.8 mass% is formed in the interface layer from directly above the bonding phase to a thickness position that is halfway through the interface layer in the layer thickness direction; and the low-Co-containing region and the low-C-containing region are formed in an alternating manner in a direction parallel to the tool base body surface.
