Abstract:
Provided are a system and a method for treating a waste lithium ion battery, by which the recovery rate of lithium can be improved. One example of this system for treating a waste lithium ion battery includes a first aqueous solution production device (1) in which an active substance extracted from a waste lithium ion battery is immersed in a first elution tank (1a) containing water, and carbon dioxide gas is bubbled, so as to produce an aqueous solution which has a pH of 5.5-8.5 and into which lithium contained in the active substance has been eluted; a first solid-liquid separation device (2) for removing solid components from the aqueous solution produced in the first aqueous solution production device (1); a first crystallization device (3) for crystallizing lithium carbonate from the aqueous solution from which solid components have been removed in the first solid-liquid separation device (2); and a second solid-liquid separation device (4) for performing solid-liquid separation on a slurry containing lithium carbonate crystallized in the first crystallization device (3), and then extracting lithium carbonate.
