Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2020/008456
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A tear-resistant wearable identification band, flat before use, comprising a loop portion and an identifying portion. In use, the loop portion forms a loop around the identified object with the identifying portion being a tag protruding from the loop. The identifying portion comprises at least one identifier, the identifier being any of human-readable, machine-readable and RFID. To form the loop, the distal end of the identifying portion is passed through a tear line and the distal end of the loop portion is adhered to the external side of the loop portion. The shape of the ends of the tear line is such that a tear beyond the end of a tear line is self-limited to the area around the end of the tear line; the tear will not propagate further and cause failure of the identification band.

Description:
A TEAR-RESISTANT IDENTIFICATION BAND

FIEFD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention generally pertains to a system and method for providing a tear-resistant identification band, such as a wearable identification band.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

U.S. granted patent US8, 006.422 to Riley discloses a cushioned wristband which includes a carrier having a multilayered band portion and a strap sewn to the back of the band portion of the carrier. The band has a surface with loop material and the strap has a surface of hook material, the hook and loop surfaces being intended to secure the band in place as it is wrapped about a patient’s appendage. The strap is appropriately sized to insert through one or both of two cinch slots of a self-laminating hang tag which may be printed with patient information and separated from a form processed through a printer for imaging of patient information thereon. The band portion of the carrier includes a cushioned layer of soft foamy or spongy material for contacting a patient’s skin to substantially eliminate any possibility of abrasion, rash, or other irritation or injury to the patient through wearing of the wristband.

However, patent US8, 006.422 comprises several parts which are sewn together, the wristband being fastenable using Velcro™ or other hook-and-loop type fastener.

U.S. granted patent US7,8lO,267 to Saint et al. discloses an identification band is formed from a soft flexible woven fabric, such as polyester or nylon. Patient specific indicia can be imprinted on selected areas on the front of the band. The identification band initially is part of a laminated sheet that can be processed through a printing apparatus. The identification band can include an RFID inlay or RFID label secured between the identification panel and the flap or an RFID label applied to the exterior of the identification panel or the flap with its electronic aspects beneath the portion of the RFID label on the identification panel. In all cases, the RFID inlay or the electronic aspect of the RFID label is safely, securely and permanently contained within the identification band.

However, in patent US7, 810,267, the identification band comprises no slits or slots, one end of the band being adhered between two portions of the other end of the band. U.S. granted patent US9, 842,519 to Burout et al. discloses a fastener assembly which has a molded plastic fastener shaped to define a filament, a paddle at one end of the filament, and a cross-bar at the other end of the filament. The fastener assembly additionally includes a printed label embedded in the paddle, the printed label including an electrically chargeable, stiffness-enhancing laminate that is applied to a print-receptive polymer substrate. The label can incorporate one or more inlays (e.g., a security inlay and/or an RFID inlay) or electronic components (e.g., an integrated circuit (IC)) to enhance the functionality of the fastener assembly (e.g., provide fastener assembly 11 with electronic article surveillance (HAS) and/or radio frequency identification (RFID) capabilities). a

However, the fastener assembly is held in place by the cross-bar, which is passed through an object to be identified, such as a garment.

U.S. patent application publication number US2014/003222 discloses a medical error alert device comprising a controller, a first memory, a recording and playback module and a user interface. The user interface enables a patient or a patient representative to record an announcement identifying a medical procedure to be carried out. The user interface also enables later playback of the announcement before the medical procedure is carried out. A communication device, coupled to a network to enable reception of signals from the network comprises a patient identification number and/or a unique medical alert device identifier. A predetermined alert may be generated responsive to the communication device receiving a signal associated with the predetermined alert and the patient identification number and/or the unique device identifier.

However, the device of US2014/003222 comprises a standard hospital wristband, which is coupled to the patient’s wrist by a shanked button passed through a pair of holes in the wristband, the shank of the button clipping into a female portion of a second button. Fastening of a wristband of this type can be awkward, especially if a patient is not cooperative, because the wristband must be held, with holes overlapping, while a clipping device is passed into position over and under with wristband. The clipping device must then be positioned so that the buttons will pass through the holes so as to be clippable together.

It is therefore a long felt need to provide a wearable identification band which does not need sewing to assemble, is generable as a single, layered, piece, in which the wristband is fastened onto the wrist by wrapping the wristband around a wrist and adhering it to the portion of the wristband encircling the wrist, in which any tear region in the wristband comprises a shape resistant to unwanted tearing.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

The following description is provided, alongside all chapters of the present invention, so as to enable any person skilled in the art to make use of said invention and sets forth the best modes contemplated by the inventor of carrying out this invention. Various modifications, however, will remain apparent to those skilled in the art, since the generic principles of the present invention have been defined specifically to provide a means and method for providing a tear-resistant wearable identification band.

The term 'reverse side' hereinafter refers to the side of the identification band facing the identified object when the identification band is in use. Before use, typically, the reverse side will be removably adhered to a backing sheet.

The term‘front side' hereinafter refers to the side of the identification band facing away from the object when the identification band is in use. Typically, printed identification indicia are readable from the front side

The term‘tag' hereinafter refers to the portion of the identification band comprising identification information.

The term 'flag' hereinafter refers to a tag that is, in use, connected to an identification band at only one end, so that the tag protrudes from the identification band. The term 'bridge' hereinafter refers to a tag that is, in use, connected to an identification band at both ends, so that only the middle of the tag protrudes from the identification band.

The identification band of the present invention is produced as a unitary object, which comprises a proximal, band, part for encircling at least a portion of an object, typically a person’s hand, and a distal, tag, part which is typically configured to provide identification of the object. The unitary object as produced, which can be stored for an indefinite amount of time, is a flat strip. The flat strip comprises the identification band and a discardable portion, the discardable portion separable from the identification band by a tear line. A portion of the identification band, the connection portion, comprises an adhesive. The adhesive is covered by a removable backing sheet. In some embodiments, the backing sheet is a separate unit, free at the edges, and covering little more of the identification band than the exposable adhesive. In preferred embodiments, the backing sheet is an integral part of the identification band, with another at least one tear line enabling separation of the backing sheet from the adhesive, thereby exposing the adhesive and allowing the connection portion to be adhered to another part of the identification band.

In use, the identification band is looped around at least a portion of the object to be identified, so that the identification band encircles the portion of the object. The connecting portion is then adhered to the proximal portion of the identification, band, forming an identification band which is difficult to remove from the object.

Fig. 1A-B illustrates a prior art identification band. Fig. 1A shows the identification band configured with the flag, the identification portion, secured at both its proximal and distal ends. Fig. IB shows the identification band configured with the flag secured only at its proximal end, so that the flag will protrude away from the identification band, making reading the indicia on it easier. In this prior art device, before assembly, the flag is a separate part, entirely separate from the wristband portion. After assembly, the flag is held in place by a band (46) threaded through slots at the proximal and distal ends of the flag. Furthermore, the strap (48) is held to the band (46) by means of Velcro™, with the loop part of the Velcro being on the upper surface of the band and the hook part of the Velcro being on the lower surface of the strap.

Fig.2 illustrates another prior art identification band. It has a unitary construction, with a proximal portion, a strap configured to encircle a portion of the object to be identified (e.g., a patient) and a distal, identifying, portion. To fasten the device to an object such as a patient’ s wrist, the proximal portion encircles the object and a shanked button is passed through an overlapping pair of holes (310). A button with matched female part is clipped or otherwise fastened to the shanked button, thereby connecting the outer and the inner portions of the wristband. Usually two sets of buttons are used, in two pairs of holes.

Fig. 3 illustrates a third prior art identification band. It has a unitary construction, with a proximal portion, a strap (21) and T-bar (17) configured to be fastened to an object to be identified and a distal portion (19) comprising an identifying portion (15). To fasten to an object, the T-bar is folded and passed through the object to be identified in a folded condition. It then unfolds; with the unfolded T-bar on one side of the object and the distal portion on the other side of the object, the identification band is securely attached to the object.

Fig. 4 illustrates a fourth prior art identification band. It has a unitary construction, with a proximal portion, a strap (24) configured to encircle a portion of the object to be identified (e.g., a patient) and a distal, identifying, portion with foldable flaps (26, 28), the foldable flaps having adhesive on one side. To fasten the device to an object such as a patient’s wrist, the proximal portion encircles the object and the proximal end thereof is placed on the adhesive side of one flap. The second flap is then folded over the first flap, with the strap held by the adhesive between the two flaps. The identifying portion will be a flag, protruding away from the strap.

In some embodiments, the identification band of the present invention can be used as a hospital identification band.

In some embodiments, the identification band can be used for a person other than in a hospital setting, to identify the person, to track the person, to provide a permission for the person, to deny a permission for the person, and any combination thereof.

In some embodiments, the identification band can be used to identify, for example, a person. In some embodiments other data are accessible via the identification band, stored in the band, accessible via information stored in the band and any combination thereof. For non-limiting example, a person can be a patient or a patient’s caregiver, a child or a person with a mental disability. In such cases, tracking, providing a non-losable identity tag and denial of access to certain areas (such as the outdoors) can be useful. A person can be an attendee at an event or a visitor at an amusement venue, where allowing or denying access to certain areas can be needed, and where, in addition, access can be allowed to an area (such as a ride) only after payment of a fee; in some embodiments, the identifier in the tag can allow automatic collection of fees. In some embodiments, the tag can allow access to age of size-related information, thereby enabling allowing or denying items based on the tagged person’s characteristics. For non-limiting example, a person can be denied an alcoholic drink of the person is under age, or a person can be denied access to a ride if the person is too small or too large to fit into a seat in a ride. The event can be a sporting event, where the identification band can identify, for non-limiting example, a competitor, a referee, a member of the audience, or an assistant, and can provide tracking, area access, denial of access (for example, preventing a member of the audience from accessing the sporting area), medical information and any combination thereof.

In some embodiments, as shown schematically in Fig. 5A-B, the identification band can be used for an animal, either in a veterinary setting, as for a human in a hospital setting, or as a tracking/identification device, as described above for a person. The identification band can be around the animal’s neck (Fig. 5A) or around a leg (Fig. 5B).

In some embodiments, as shown schematically in Fig. 6A-B and Figs. 7A-B, the identification band can be used for a plant (Fig. 6A), for a non-living object (Fig. 7A-B), or for a controlled substance (Fig. 6B). As disclosed above, the band can be used for identification, for tracking, for allowing/denying access, for payment, for determining use (if the package containing the object/substance comprises individually removable sub-objects) and any combination thereof.

It should also be noted that a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulation mandates the identification of each medical device using a Unique Device Identifier (UDI) labelling system, which allows each device to be trackable and traceable from manufacture point through use on a patient at the point of care. The regulation is intended to increase patient safety and operational efficiency and to lead to cost savings and revenue capture. The identification band of the present invention can be applied to a medical device (Figs. 7A and 7B) or to packaging for a medical device (Fig. 6B) at point of manufacture and the indicia (printed or electronic) can be read and transmitted to the USFDA database (Global Unique Device Identification Database (GUDID)) as and when needed at any point up to and including at point of use and point of disposal, thus enabling satisfaction of the USFDA regulation at low cost. Fig. 8A-B illustrates an embodiment of an identification band of the present invention. Fig. 8A shows (900) the identification band (1000) surrounded by a carrier (950), while Fig. 8B shows identification band (1000) after removal of the carrier (950).

In some embodiments, as shown in Fig. 8A, before use (900), the identification band (1000) is surrounded by a carrier (950). The carrier (950) is linked to the identification band (1000) by a tear line (970); after separation of the carrier (950) from the identification band (1000) by tearing of the linking tear line (970), the inner part of the linking tear line (970) forms the outer edge of the identification band (1000).

It has a unitary construction, with a proximal portion (1100) configured to encircle a portion of the object to be identified (e.g., a patient) and a distal, identifying portion (1200) comprising a tag (1300). The tag can comprise one or more tear lines (1310A, 1310B); the proximal portion (1100) can also comprise one or more tear lines (1310C). Preferably, all tear lines (1310) are in the tag (1300). Tear lines are weakened areas on the identification band. Pressure on the tear line causes tearing of the identification band along the tear line; the material on one side of the tear line separates from material on the other side, allowing passage of an object from one side of the identification band to the opposite side. In the identification band of the present invention, only the material of the tear line is weakened; material away from the tear line is not weakened; it remains full-strength material.

To fasten the device to an object such as a patient’s wrist, the proximal portion encircles the object and the proximal end (1110) thereof is threaded through at least one tear line, typically from the reverse side of the identification band to its front side, where the reverse side is the side facing the object. The reverse side of the proximal end (1110) comprises adhesive. When the proximal end (1110) of the proximal portion is pressed against the encircling proximal portion, the adhesive seals, forming a band difficult to remove from the object. If the proximal end (1110) is threaded through a tear line at the distal end of the distal portion (1310A), the tag (1300) will lie smoothly against the proximal portion (1100), the whole forming a smooth, flat wristband.

If the proximal end (1110) is threaded through a tear line at the proximal end of the distal portion (1310B) or at the distal end of the proximal portion (1310C), the tag (1300) will form a flag, protruding away from the proximal portion (1100).

If the proximal end (1110) is threaded through two tear lines, one at the distal end of the distal portion (1310A) and one either at the proximal end of the distal portion (1310B) or at the distal end of the proximal portion (1310C), the tag (1300) will form a bridge, held by the proximal portion (1100) at its ends, but bulging away from the proximal portion (1100) in the middle.

In the embodiment shown above, the identification band comprises a single tag. In other embodiments, the identification band can comprise more than one tag.

A tag can be located in any portion of the identification band, for non-limiting example, at the distal end of the identification band, as shown in the embodiment of Fig. 8, in the middle of the identification band, and at the proximal end of the identification band.

Fig. 9 illustrates a tear line (1310) of the embodiment of Fig. 8. In this embodiment, the tear line comprises three principal parts, an upper curved portion (1312) and a lower curved portion (1316) interconnected by a substantially straight portion (1314). The upper curved portion (1312) terminates in an upper tip (1318A) and the lower curved portion (1316) terminates in a lower tip (1318B), with the upper tip (1318A) and the lower tip (1318B) configured to limit propagation of tears so that if a tear propagates beyond the end of a tip (1318), the tear will propagate towards the tear line, and not towards an edge of the tag (1300). This helps prevent separation of the tag (1300) from the proximal portion (1100).

Fig. 10A-F illustrates exemplary embodiments of tips (1318), with Fig. 10A showing a C shape tip, Fig. 10B showing a U shape tip, Fig. 10C showing a spiral shape tip, Fig. 10D showing a zigzag shape tip, and Fig. 10E and Fig. 10F showing square shape tips, with Fig. 10E showing a square U shape tip and Fig. 10F showing a square spiral shape tip. A tip can comprise any combination of tip shapes. In Figs. 10A, 10B, 10D and 10E, the terminal end of the tip (1318) is directed toward the substantially straight portion of the tear line; in Figs. IOC and 10F, the terminal end of the tip (1318) is directed further outward, toward the curved portion (1312, 1314) it terminates.

In Figs. 10A, 10B, 10C and 10D, the upper curved portion forms an arc subtending an angle greater than 180 degrees with the substantially straight portion.

Fig. 11 illustrates another embodiment of the identification band of the present invention (1000). It has a unitary construction, with a proximal portion (1100) configured to encircle a portion of the object to be identified (e.g., a wrist of a patient) and a distal portion (1200) comprising an identifying portion, the tag (1300), separable from a frame (1210, 1220, 1230) by a U shaped tear line (1310), a weakened area on the identification band. The tear line (1310) has an upper straight portion (1312) and lower straight portion (1316) interconnected by a substantially curved portion (1314). The upper straight portion (1312) terminates in an upper tip (1318A) and the lower straight portion (1318) terminates in a lower tip (1318B). In some embodiments, at least one tip (1318) is straight, as shown in Fig. 11. In some embodiments, at least one tip (1318) is configured to limit propagation of tears. Shapes of exemplary embodiments of tear-limiting tips (1318) are shown in Figs. 10A-F.

Pressure on the tear line causes tearing of the identification band along the tear line; the material on one side of the tear line separates from material on the other side, freeing the tag (1300) from the frame (1210, 1220, 1230). In the identification band of the present invention, only the material of the tear line is weakened; material away from the tear line is not weakened; it remains full- strength material.

To fasten the device to an object such as a patient’s wrist, the proximal portion encircles the object and the reverse side of the frame (1210, 1220, 1230) is pressed against the encircling proximal portion, where the reverse side is the side facing the object. At least a portion of the reverse side of the frame (1210, 1220, 1230) comprises adhesive. When the frame (1210, 1220, 1230) is pressed against the encircling proximal portion, the adhesive seals, forming a band difficult to remove from the object.

In this embodiment of the identification band, at least a portion of the upper part of the frame (1210) and at least a portion of the lower part of the frame (1220) comprise adhesive. In some variants of this embodiment, the end part of the frame (1230) also comprises adhesive. Therefore, in this embodiment, the identification band is sealed to itself in at least two and sometimes three areas, thus further reducing the likelihood of unwanted disbanding and unexpected release of the identification band.

If the tear line (1310) is not torn before the frame (1210, 1220, 1230) is adhered to the proximal portion (1100), then the tag (1300) remains attached to the frame (1210, 1220, 1230) will lie smoothly against the proximal portion (1100), the whole forming a smooth, flat wristband.

If the tear line (1310) is torn before the frame (1210, 1220, 1230) is adhered to the proximal portion (1100), then the tag (1300) will form a flag, protruding away from the proximal portion (1100).

As shown in Fig. 12, if the tear line (1310) is torn before the frame (1210, 1220, 1230) is adhered to the proximal portion (1100) and the reverse side of the end (1320) of the tag (1300) is adhered to the proximal portion (1100), the tag (1300) will form a bridge, held by the proximal portion (1100) at its ends, but bulging away from the proximal portion (1100) in the middle.

Typically, in all embodiments, the tag (1300) comprises identification information. The identification information typically comprises standard hospital identifiers, which can include, but are not limited to, any combination of: a patient’s names, age, weight, medical condition, medications, schedule for administering medications, treatments, schedule for treatment, food, schedule for feeding, contraindications, allergies, date of admission, expected date of departure, and name(s) of medical personnel associated with the patient (e.g., the patient’s doctor, the surgeon who operated on the patient). The identification information can be provided as printable identification indicia or electronically. Printable identification indicia can be any combination of words or pictures readable directly by a user, and machine-readable code such as, but not limited to, 1D bar code and 2D bar code. Electronic identification information is typically stored in an electronic device embedded in or attached to the tag (1300). A typical electronic information storage device is an RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification). Fig. 12 shows an exemplary RFID (1350) on the reverse of the bridged tag (1300). The RFID can be embedded in the tag, adhered to the tag, preferably with a permanent adhesive, printed on the tag, or placed in communication with the tag in any other conventional manner.

Preferably, the identification band disclosed herein comprises a flexible material. The material can comprise paper, a flexible polymer, metal and any combination thereof and can comprise a multilayer structure. A typical conventional identification band comprises a multilayer structure where the front layer is a printable polymer and the reverse layer comprises biocompatible material that can accept an adhesive without degradation and without degrading the adhesive. In preferred embodiments, the identification band can be printed by passing it through a conventional office- type printer.

In some variants of the embodiment of Figs. 11 and 12, there are two substantially parallel tear lines (1310) in the distal portion (1200), each of the substantially parallel tear lines extending to the end of the distal portion. In these variants of the embodiment of Figs. 11 and 12, the frame comprises only the upper part of the frame (1210) the lower part of the frame (1220).

As shown in Fig. 12, in an embodiment of an identification band (1000) with a U shaped tear line (1310), the reverse side of the distal portion (1200) of the identification band is adhered to a portion of the proximal portion (1100) of the identification band; no part of the identification band (1000) passes through any tear line (1310).

In the embodiment of Fig. 12, the tear line (1310) passes entirely through the identification band (1000) and the tag (1300) comprises all layers of the identification band (1000). Therefore, the distal portion (1200) comprises a tag (1300) and a frame (1210, 1220, 1230) with a hole in it. The tag (1300) comprises all of the central part of the distal portion (1200); none of the central part of the distal portion (1200) is available for adhesion to the proximal portion (1100) of the identification band.

In some variants of an identification band (1000) with a U shaped tear line (1310), the tear line (1310) extend only partway through the multilayer structure of the identification band (1000). In such variants, at least one layer of the distal portion (1200) remains whole; unlike the embodiment shown in Fig. 12, after the tear line (1310) has been torn and the tag (1300) has been freed from the distal part of the distal portion (1200), there is no hole in the distal portion (1200). In such variants of this embodiment, the upper part of the frame (1210), the lower part of the frame (1220) and the end part of the frame (1230) are conjoint, forming a single unit. In such variants of an embodiment with U shaped tear line, a much larger area of the distal portion (1200) is available for adhesion to the proximal portion (1100) of the identification band. In some embodiments, when the proximal portion has been formed into a band encircling an object (a wristband), the tag (1300) can be rotated about the proximal portion around an axis not parallel to the tear line at the base of the tag (1300); rotation around an axis parallel to the tear line at the base of the tag (1300) merely increases the distance between the distal end of the tag (1300) and the loop, the band encircling the object. For non-limiting example, if the tag (1300) is a flag and the axis is perpendicular to the band, the tag (1300) can be twisted by a rotation in which the plane of the tag (1300) goes from being substantially parallel to the wristband to the plane of the tag (1300) being substantially perpendicular to the wristband. Exemplary rotations are shown in Fig. 13A-C.

Fig. 13A-C shows the proximal portion (1100) forming a band, with the tag (1300) twisted around at least one axis (2100). The axes of rotation (2100) are indicated by dashed lines.

In Fig. 13A, the axis of rotation (2100) is parallel to the band (1100) and passes through the tear line (1310); the tag (1300) is rotated as described above.

In Fig. 13B, the axis of rotation (2100) is perpendicular to the band (1100) and to the plane of the paper; the“+” is above the plane of the paper and the is below the plane of the paper, and passes through the tear line (1310). In this exemplary rotation, the tag (1300) is turned sideways.

In Fig. 13C, two axes of rotation are shown, The axis of rotation (2100A) closer to the tear line (1310) is perpendicular to the band (1100) and to the plane of the paper; the“+” is above the plane of the paper and the is below the plane of the paper, and passes through the tear line (1310). The axis of rotation (2100B) further from the tear line (1310) is parallel to the tear line; the tag (1300) is twisted by a rotation in which the plane of the tag (1300) goes from being substantially parallel to the wristband to the plane of the tag (1300) being substantially perpendicular to the wristband.

In the hook-ended tear line of the present invention, ripping beyond the tip of the tear line will tend to remain in an area bounded by the tear line and a line joining the upper curved portion and the lower curved portion at their widest point, rather than, as in a conventional identification band, travelling from a tip of the tear line to an edge of the identification band, thereby destroying the integrity of the identification band and increasing the probability of loss of the tag from the identification band, or possibly even loss of the entire identification band from the patient’s wrist.

Tensile testing using an Instron demonstrates that the strength of an identification band with at least one hook-ended tear line of the present invention is at least 30% greater than the tear strength of an identification band with a conventionally-shaped tear line. The U shaped tear line of the present invention has the advantage that at least two areas of the frame are adhered to the proximal portion of the band, neither of the areas comprising a tear or weakened material. All of these factors decrease the probability of unwanted tearing by reducing the factors allowing initiation of a new tear. Addition of adhesive at the distal end of the proximal portion and just proximal to the proximal end of the tag, in an area extending across the identification band from within the base of the upper frame to within the base of the lower frame can further decrease unwanted tearing and further increase the strength of the band.

It has been found that the strength of an identification band with at least one U shaped tear line of the present invention is at least 20% greater than a tear strength of an identification band with a conventionally- shaped tear line.

Conventionally, an identification band is placed around the wrist of a patient. However, the identification band of the present invention is not limited to a wrist. It can be applied around any part of an object where the part is narrower than surrounding parts so that the identification band can not be slid off the object. For non-limiting example, around a human patient, it can be applied to an arm, a leg, an ankle, a shoulder, a thorax, an abdomen, a neck or a head, although application around a neck is normally contraindicated for safety reasons.

The RFID can be operated using a protocol selected from a group consisting of: a UHF protocol, an HF protocol or a Near Field Communication (NFC) protocol. Communication can be one-way or two-way. In some embodiments, data in the RFID can not be altered; in some embodiments, at least one datum in the RFID can be altered.

The identification band of the present invention can comprise more than one RFID. Each additional RFID can be in communication with the identification band in any manner disclosed above for a first RFID; at least one RFID can be in communication with the identification band in a manner different from that of at least one other RFID.

An RFID can be in communication with a proximal part of the identification band, in communication with the tag of the identification band, in communication with the frame of an identification band and any combination thereof.

All of the RFID can use the same frequency, or at least one RFID can use a different frequency from at least one other RFID. Any RFID can be multi-frequency.

A tag can have more than one RFID.

The identification band (1000) of the present invention can be part of a larger system. For non- limiting example, the RFID can be used to communicate with a database system or with a Blockchain-enabled system.

In a system comprising at least one database, the at least one RFID can be read and the data thereon stored in at least one database. Data from the database, can be used, either in real-time or later, for at least one of: verification (for non-limiting example, to verify that a device was used during treatment, that a ticket was used, that an animal is in the correct cage, or that an item was transferred to a warehouse). Data can be used later for validation (for non-limiting example, to validate that the correct device was used during treatment, that the correct customer used the ticket or that the number of customers matched the number of tickets, that the correct animal received a treatment, or that the correct item was transferred to the warehouse), recognition, and authorization.

In some embodiments, at least one of verification, validation, recognition and authorization is performed by means of a decentralized ledger, a Blockchain. Typically, connectivity for the Blockchain is via the cloud, although any conventional means, either wired or wireless, of providing inter-processor and inter-database connectivity can be used.

Fig. 14 shows an exemplary embodiment of a Blockchain. Wearer (tag user) information is generated (101) and used to create and assign a tag (102). The tag and wearer information is encoded to a database (103), with the database being a decentralized ledger (Blockchain). The information encoded includes necessary information for at least one of: the use of the tag for identification of the wearer, for the wearer to generate transactions and for the wearer to authorize transactions.

New transactions (106) are created by activating the tag (104) or by uploading additional information from other input systems (105). If a transaction is verified, then it is encoded to the database (107). If the transaction is not verified, the rejection notification is sent to the appropriate authority. It should be noted that any combination of the features of the present invention as disclosed above comprises an embodiment of the identification band of the present invention.
