Abstract:

[Problem] The purpose of the present invention is to provide a thermal head and a thermal transfer printer wherein tension is applied to an ink ribbon which is heated by a thermal head and comes loose, and frictional force generating between the thermal head and the ink ribbon is reduced without the need of skilled techniques. [Solution] A ribbon transfer direction changing member (30) pushes an ink ribbon (13) out in the direction receding from a heating element (21), namely slightly changes the transfer direction of the ink ribbon (13) in the direction of a platen roller (10), thereby applying a certain amount of tension to a film layer (24) right after heating.
