Title:
TRIANGULAR SIGNAL GENERATOR, AND PULSE WIDTH MODULATOR COMPRISING SUCH A TRIANGULAR SIGNAL GENERATOR
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2013/098152
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention relates to a triangular signal generator in which a capacitor (C1) is alternately charged and discharged by means of two current sources (SQ1, SQ2). According to the invention, the current sources (SQ1, SQ2) are formed by complementary current mirror circuits. The charge state of the capacitor (C1) is detected by means of two common-base transistors (T3, T4), and when a charge state is reached in which the respective current source (SQ1, SQ2) is in saturation, a flip-flop (FF) is switched, the output (Q) of said flip-flop switching the current sources (SQ1, SQ2). The invention further relates to a pulse width modulator comprising such a triangular signal generator, the output signal of said pulse width modulator being compared with an input signal (V_In) by means of a differential amplifier (T5, T8), the base point of which lies at a negative potential (-3V). The output of the differential amplifier (T5, T8) is set to a high level if the input voltage (V_In) is greater than the voltage at the capacitor (C1). The output signal of the differential amplifier (T5, T8) is out-coupled by means of a current mirror circuit (T7).
