Abstract:
Provided is an ultrasonic motor making it possible to increase torque without increasing size. This ultrasonic motor 1 is provided with: a stator 2 that has a plate-shaped vibrating body 3 comprising a first and a second principal surface 3a, 3b as well as piezoelectric elements (first and third piezoelectric elements 13A, 13C) provided on the first principal surface 3a; and a rotor 5 that is in contact with the second principal surface 3b. The piezoelectric elements are arranged along the circumferential direction of traveling waves in order to generate the traveling waves, which go around an axial direction Z, by causing the vibrating body 3 to vibrate. The piezoelectric elements make the vibrating body 3 vibrate according to a vibration mode including nodal lines extending in the circumferential direction. A mass-adding part 3d is provided along the circumferential direction to the first and/or the second principal surface 3a, 3b of the vibrating body 3, and the mass-adding part 3d is located on the outside of the nodal lines in a direction perpendicular to the axial direction Z.
