Abstract:
The problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a method for producing a flavone having a malonyl group added to glucose located at position-7 therein using a polynucleotide encoding a protein having an activity to transfer a malonyl group to position-6 in glucose located at position-7 in flavone 7-glucoside, and to produce a plant variety which contains a flavone having a malonyl group added to glucose located at position-7 as a co-pigment and therefore can have an altered flower color, preferably a bluer flower color than the colors of the existing varieties. A polynucleotide is used, which is selected from the group consisting of: (a) a polynucleotide which comprises the nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 1; (b) a polynucleotide which can hybridize with a polynucleotide comprising a nucleotide sequence complementary to the nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 1 under stringent conditions and encodes a protein having an activity to transfer a malonyl group to position-6 in glucose located at position-7 in flavone 7-glucoside; (c) a polynucleotide which encodes a protein comprising the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 2; and (d) a polynucleotide which encodes a protein comprising an amino acid sequence produced by deleting, substituting, inserting and/or adding one or several amino acid residues in the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 2 and having an activity to transfer a malonyl group to position-6 in glucose located at position-7 in flavone 7-glucoside; and others.
