Title:
VACUUM FILTERING TOILET SEAT COVER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2009/064261
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The vacuum-filtering toilet-seat cover prevents the spreading of unpleasant smells from the toilet into the room that houses the toilet because it operates directly at the place where the unpleasant smell is formed. This functionality is achieved with a hollow toilet-seat cover (1) and with the vents (2) for vacuuming the air. The vents are positioned on the inner, underside of the seat cover. This form of positioning ensures that while vacuuming, the air in the toilet starts to flow in a circular manner in such a way that it prevents the spreading of the smell out of the toilet and into the room. The seat cover is connected with the vacuum-filtering part (4) that directs the air through the ventilation opening and directly out of the room or it directs the air through a filter (6) and through an air freshener (7) and returns the freshened air back into the room.

VACUUM-FILTERING TOILET-SEAT COVER

The main function of the vacuum-filtering toilet-seat cover is to remove any unpleasant smell coming from the toilet.

The device operates directly at the place were the unpleasant smell is formed. In this way the unpleasant smell does not spread into the room that houses the toilet. Instead, its path is through the filter into the room housing the toilet or through a ventilation opening and out of the room.

The solutions employed so far do not use this form of operation. Current solutions act on the unpleasant smell after it spreads out of the toilet into the room. We can separate this kind of indirect removal of the smell into two categories. The first category affects and hides the smell with the help of strong air fresheners. The second category is removing the dispersed smell out of the room containing the toilet by ventilating the air out of the room. The vacuum-filtering toilet-seat invention is especially effective because it prevents the unpleasant smell from spreading into the room in the first place. This is achieved through direct operation in the toilet itself. The second effect

is that the unpleasant smell passes through the filter before the freshened air is returned back into the room, or it can be removed directly out of the room through a ventilation opening. This can be realized with a hollow toilet-seat cover with vents. Figure 1 shows the main parts of the device:

- seat cover (1) with vents (2)

- connection pipe (3)

- vacuum-filtering part (4)

The vacuuming part is made up of the seat cover (1) with the vents (2). The vents are on the underside of the seat cover and are positioned in the middle of the toilet above the water-containing bowl. This positioning ensures that while vacuuming the air in the toilet it starts to circle in such a way that it prevents the spreading of the smell out of the toilet and into the room. Figure 3 (the section through BA) shows the air flow inside the toilet during the vacuuming. The picture shows a section through the toilet-seat cover (1), which is hollow (8), a section through the vents (2) and a section through the toilet (9).

The seat cover and the vacuum-filtering part are connected with the pipe (3), which is designed to allow raising and lowering of the seat cover.

The vacuum-filtering part is in the casing (4), which has an opening (5) for the ventilator.

By using the filter the opening (5) ensures that the filtered air returns back into the room with the toilet. The filter is housed in its own casing (6), which can be removed from the main casing and exchanged with the new filter. Behind the ventilator are the air fresheners (7). This configuration directly

acts on the unpleasant smell, and at the same time takes care of freshening the room.

In the event that the toilet is in a room that has a ventilation opening in the wall, then the casing with the hole (5) is connected with the pipe and the ventilation opening on the wall. This configuration ensures the most effective removal of the unpleasant smell.

The seat cover also has a built-in switch that automatically switches the vacuuming action on and off.
