Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide an internal combustion engine in which the active state of a valve can be switched, there is little wear of a cam and a rocker arm, a cylinder head can be reduced in size, and an amount of valve lift can be ensured. A valve spring retainer (30) comprises a cylinder part (34) having formed therein a first through-hole (34c) in which the inside diameter decreases from a first end part (34a) toward a second end part (34b), a conical part (36) having formed therein a second through-hole (36c) in which the inside diameter increases away from the second end part (34b) of the cylinder part (34), and a flange part (38) extending radially outward from the conical part (36). The outside diameter of the cylinder part (34) is constant from the first end part (34a) to the second end part (34b), and the outside diameter of the conical part (36) increases away from the second end part (34b).
