Abstract:
Provided is a vibration damping device for cables that suppresses unstable displacement of an elevator cable caused by the amplification of the displacement, and also allows the cable to have a wider range of motion. The vibration damping device (20) comprises a first unit and a first stopper. The first unit is a portion capable of moving in a direction in which the distance from the vibration equilibrium position (19) of the cable of an elevator 1 changes. The first stopper restricts the first unit from moving closer than a first distance (d1) from the equilibrium position (19). The first unit is equipped with a first displacement amplifier and a first restriction member. The first displacement amplifier is disposed facing the first position (P1) in the longitudinal direction of the cable. The first displacement amplifier amplifies the displacement of the vibration of the cable by an attractive force that becomes stronger as the cable approaches. The first restriction member inhibits the cable from approaching the first displacement amplifier more than a preset distance.
