Provided is a vibration damping device having good operational stability, and an imaging device. The vibration damping device is provided with an imaging element, a first member, a second member, and a magnetic force application means. The first member holds a first magnet and a second magnet. The second member holds the imaging element, a first coil, and a second coil. The magnetic force application means applies a magnetic force which attracts the first member and the second member with relation to the optical axis direction of subject light incident on the imaging surface the imaging element. The magnetic force application means includes: a first magnet; a second magnet; a first magnetic body which is disposed in a position so as to be opposite from the first magnet with respect to the optical axis direction; a second magnetic body which is disposed in a position so as to be opposite from the second magnet with respect to the optical axis direction; a third magnet which, in a planar view from the optical axis direction, is disposed so as to be opposite from the first magnetic body and the second magnetic body, with the imaging element being therebetween; and a third magnetic body which is disposed in a position so as to be opposite from the third magnet with respect to the optical axis direction.
