Abstract:
In the present invention, an HUD is configured to display a virtual image by causing a translucent member to reflect display light. The HUD comprises: a projector for projecting the display light; and a polarization adjustment member (41) that is disposed on an optical path from the projector to the translucent member and that adjusts the display light and external polarized light. The polarization adjustment member (41) includes: a polarizing plate (42) that is formed in a thin plate shape having a characteristic of blocking polarized light in a direction along a blocking axis (SAp), and that is in a state in which residual stress which is greatest in a first residual stress direction (RSD1) among the directions along the plate surface is inherent therein; and a support plate (43) that is formed in a plate shape to support the polarizing plate (42), the support plate being in a state in which residual stress which is greatest in a second residual stress direction (RSD2) among the directions along the plate surface is inherent therein. The polarizing plate (42) and the support plate (43) are formed in a state of being bonded to each other such that the first residual stress direction (RSD1) is along the second residual stress direction (RSD2).
