Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is small-sized and low-cost and has a long lifetime and is capable of maintaining suitable fixability.SOLUTION: A fixing device 40 of an image forming apparatus 1 includes a fixing roller 41, an endless belt 43 rotating in contact with the fixing roller 41, a heating unit 44 for heating the belt 43, and a nip forming part 50 which is disposed on the inside of the belt 43 so as to face the fixing roller 41 and is brought into contact with an inner surface of the belt 43 to form a fixing nip part N between the fixing roller 41 and the belt 43. A lubricant is interposed between the inner surface of the belt 43 and the nip forming part 50. A pooling space S for the lubricant is formed between the inner surface of the belt 43 and the nip forming part 50 on the upstream side of the nip forming part 50 in a rotation direction of the belt 43, and a lubricant supply part 60 which varies the volume of the pooling space S for the lubricant is provided.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
