Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silo drier, or a silo storage added with a drying function, that does not cause spontaneous combustion to occur and can safely be kept running should spontaneous combustion occur.SOLUTION: There is provided a drier that dries a wet raw material represented by biomass having a high ratio of fixed carbon relative to a volatile component, in which drier, drying is carried out for a long period according to the principle of natural drying by injecting low temperature warm air thereinto from the bottom part of a silo and is determined to be completed according to a humidity change at the outlet of the silo and/or drying time. Drying can be carried out without causing spontaneous combustion to occur, and should a tendency of spontaneous combustion be detected, the operation can safely be continued according to a so-called self extinguishing process of circulating the stored raw material to quench a local heat generating zone with the raw material of a normal temperature surrounding the zone. If a plurality of silos are provided, raw materials to be dried having stable properties can continuously be supplied to a heat treatment furnace.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
