Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately control an air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas to a target air-fuel ratio necessary for NOx reduction.SOLUTION: A NOx catalyst 41 arranged in an exhaust passage 40 of an engine 1 occludes NOx in exhaust gas when an air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas is in a leaner state than the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, and reduces the occluded NOx when an air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas is in the vicinity of the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio or is in a richer state than the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. By control of a controller U, when a NOx reduction condition is satisfied, NOx reduction control is executed for setting an air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas at a target air-fuel ratio which allows reduction of NOx. When executing the NOx reduction control, an electric supercharger 23 is driven so that an air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas is kept at the target air-fuel ratio allowing reduction of NOx.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
