PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform proper processing on the basis of the reliability of an area in which a process of correcting the shade and the like of a subject is performed.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus comprises: processing means which performs correction processing of setting a virtual light source being virtual and correcting the brightness of a subject in an image using the virtual light source; acquisition means which acquires specific subject information in the image; determination means which determines a subject area being a target of the correction processing in the image; and control means which controls the correction processing by the processing means in accordance with the reliability of the correction processing based on the relationship between the specific subject information acquired by the acquisition means and the subject area determined by the determination means.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
