Abstract:
To provide a method for producing ultrafine metal powders by which ultrafine metal powders having a desired particle size distribution can be produced in the process of powder production in a simple manner, rather than a separate step, while circumventing issues such as aggregation that adversely affect the handling property of the metal ultrafine powders.SOLUTION: In the production method of ultrafine metal powders, oxygen or oxygen-enriched air is used as a combustion-supporting gas to burn fuel by a burner 13, thereby forming a reduced flame in a cylindrical furnace 17 blocked with outer air, and powder metal or metallic compound is supplied into the reduced flame as raw powders to heat, evaporate and reduce the ultrafine metal powders. A swirling flow for cooling the heated, evaporated and reduced raw powders is formed in the furnace 17, and the strength of the swirling flow is adjusted to produce ultrafine metal powders having a desired particle size distribution.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
