Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent oxidation and corrosion in high-temp. and high-humidity environment and to enable recording and reproducing of information stably over a long period of time by forming a thin film of a Ge-Te material as an essential component and further adding a specific ratio of nitrogen thereto. CONSTITUTION:The thin film formed by adding the nitrogen preferably at <=12atomic% to the thin film of the Ge-Te system is used as a recording film 12. The gaps in the Ge-Te crystals are previously filled by the nitrogen in the thin film 12 of the Ge-Te system added with the nitrogen and, therefore, oxygen hardly infiltrates the same. The thin film 12 of the Ge-Te system is thereby prevented from the deterioration by the infiltration of oxygen and since the generation of a change in the properties as a recording material is obviated even after the recording medium is rested for a long period of time in the high-temp. and high-humidity environment, the exact recording and reproducing of the information over a long period of time are enabled.
