Abstract:
The invention relates to an exhaust gas manifold of diesel engines with 9 or 18 cylinders, with nine linearly arranged and progressively numbered cylinders (1 to 9) per row, with a compound exhaust gas manifold (17) which extends along the cylinders and, in the case of an ignition sequence of the cylinders (1, 7, 4, 2, 8, 6, 3, 9, 5, 1) has an outlet to a turbocharger (10) at the end near to the first cylinder and a sealing cover (11) at the end near to the last cylinder while, in the case of a reverse ignition sequence of the cylinders (1, 5, 9, 3, 6, 8, 2, 4, 7, 1) it has an outlet to a turbocharger (10) at the end near to the last cylinder and a sealing cover (11) at the end near to the first cylinder. Specifically in the case of nine cylinders per row, the gas expulsion of one cylinder coincides with the scavenging procedure of the cylinder preceding it by two ignitions. The most dangerous pressure peaks, caused by reflection against the sealing cover (11), are smoothed by a restriction (12) in the exhaust gas manifold (17) whose cross-section of passage has an area of 40 to 60 % of the adjacent cross-section of the exhaust gas manifold (17), the mean pressure between the sealing cover (11) and the restriction (12) rising by about 0.1 bar. Overall, design advantages and low investment costs for the turbocharger (10) are obtained.
