Abstract:
PURPOSE:To monitor the state of an optical fiber amplifier from a remote place by giving repetitive micro bend to an erbium dope optical fiber at a specified frequency, and modulating a light signal in strength by change of its bent loss. CONSTITUTION:A bent loss giving part 11 is constituted of an optical fiber sandwiching jig 21 and an actuator 22 to drive it. A sub-signal given from a modulation circuit 14 to the actuator 22 changes pressure to hold an erbium dope optical fiber 31 in accordance with its amplitude. The erbium dope optical fiber 31 changes micro bent loss in accordance with change of its pressure and can give strength modulation to a light signal. In such a way, it is possible to detect the state of an optical fiber amplifier by giving strength modulation to the amplifying light signal and demodulating the strength modulated amount from the light signal transmitted in a terminal equipment.
