Abstract:
Cyclohexane derivatives (II) are produced by the catalytic hydrogenation of benzene derivatives (I) in a solvent system comprising two immiscible phases. Production of optionally substituted cyclohexane derivatives of formula (II) comprises hydrogenating an optionally substituted benzene derivative of formula (I) using 100-2000 % of the stoichiometrically required amount of H2 at 50-180 degrees C under 1-400 bar in a system comprising two immiscible liquid phases containing dispersed elementary H2; with the first phase being formed from compound (I) and optionally a water-immiscible solvent and the second phase being formed from water, a colloidal dispersed hydrogenation catalyst comprising a Group Ib or Group VIII metal and a catalyst stabiliser. R<1>, R<2> and R<3> = H; 1-18C alkyl; 2-18C alkenyl; 3-8C cycloalkyl; 1-18C alkoxy; NH2; NO2; OH; F; CN; -(0-4C alkanediyl)-COO-(0-4C alkyl); -(2-4C alkenediyl)-COO-(0-4C alkyl); -(0-4C alkanediyl)-(6-12C aryl); -O-CO-(1-18C alkyl); -O-(6-12C Ar); -CO-(1-18C alkyl); -CO-(6-12C Ar); -S-(6-12C Ar); -NH-(1-18C alkyl); -N(1-18C alkyl)(1-4C alkyl); -NH-(6-12C Ar); -N(6-12C Ar)(1-4C alkyl); or -P(X)m(Y)n(Z)q(O)r; or two of R<1>, R<2> and R<3> on adjacent C atoms form a fused benzene, 1,2- or 2,3-naphthalene, trimethylene, tetramethylene or propenediyl system optionally mono- or disubstituted with 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, NH2, NO2 and/or OH; Ar = aryl optionally mono- or disubstituted with 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, NH2, NO2 and/or OH; X, Y and Z = Ph or 1-4C alkyl; or Y and Z = OR<4> or NR<4>; R<4> = Ph; 1-4C alkoxy; or 1-4C alkyl; or NR<4>2 = piperidino; or Y and Z together form -O-CH2CH2-O-; Ph = phenyl optionally mono- or disubstituted with 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, NH2, NO2 and/or OH; m = 0-2; n, q and r = 0 or 1; R<1>', R<2>', R<3>' = R<1>, R<2> and R<3>, provided that unsaturated substituents can be replaced by the corresponding saturated substituents, NH2 can replace NO2, CHOH or CH2 can replace CO and CH2NH2 can replace CN.
