To provide a method for coating a polyester fiber with a photocatalyst by which a high-activity and hardly-exfoliative polyester-photocatalyst material in which the photocatalyst such as titanium dioxide is bonded densely and strongly to the surface of a polyester fiber material, can be produced while preventing the photocatalyst from being buried in a binder component to be used for coating the polyester fiber material.
The method for coating the polyester fiber with the photocatalyst comprises the steps of: forming a dry coating film of a polyvinyl acetate-based resin having a negative electric charge on the surface of the polyester fiber the surface of which is treated with silica; bringing the coating film-formed polyester fiber into contact with a liquid mixture of the photocatalyst with water, in which the weight ratio of (the photocatalyst):(water) is 0.0005:1 to 0.1:1 and the pH of which is ≤6.5, to bond the photocatalyst electrostatically to the coating film; and removing water at 0-40°C to coat the polyester fiber with the photocatalyst.
