To provide a stereoscopic image display device and method, restraining a crosstalk occurring when the frame rate is increased.

A right eye image and a left eye image corresponding to parallax for observing a stereoscopic image are alternately display on an image display surface of an image display part by scanning of modulated light. A time sharing shutter having a right eye shutter and a left eye shutter is disposed between the image display surface and an observer, and divided into a plurality of areas to be individually opened and closed area by area. The display in the image display part and the opening and closing of the time sharing shutter are controlled and synchronized so that in reproducing the right eye image or the left eye image, only a part corresponding to the scanning position of modulate light is opened out of the corresponding right eye shutter or left eye shutter.
