Abstract:
A device for carrying out so called hyperthermia in a body cavity or duct, the access path of which is narrow, characterized by an elongate distal section (3) intended to be inserted into said cavity or duct comprising a centrally located, heat-releasing element (19), which is either surrounded by an elongate housing or is itself constituted by an elongate housing, and a flexible and/or elastic enclosure (37) surrounding said housing in a liquid-tight manner, further including means (13, 15) for supplying energy to the heat-releasing element (19) and an axially operating inlet passage (35) at the proximal part of the housing, an outlet (33; 68; 87) from the housing being arranged for the supply of heat-transmitting medium under pressure for expansion of the flexible enclosure (37) to accommodate and to exert a controlled pressure on surround walls to said cavity or duct, and further characterized by a second inlet to the housing and means for internal circulation of said medium through the housing, the heat-releasing element being of an inherently self-regulating type; and a method for carrying out so called hyperthermia in a body cavity, i.e. while suplying heat to said body cavity, with simultaneous application of a controlled pressure on surrounding tissue, characterized in that the supply of heat is carried out while using a heat-emitting system of an inherently self-regulating type.
