1384194 Trisodium- and tripotassium citrates JUNGBUNZLAUER SPIRITUS-UND CHEMISCHE FABRIK AG 29 Jan 1973 [4 Feb 1972] 4421/73 Heading C2C Highly concentrated aqueous solutions of trisodium- or tripotassium citrate are produced by mixing an aqueous suspension of an alkaline earth metal citrate or a mixed (alkaline earth metal - potassium)-, (alkaline earth metalsodium)- and/or (alkaline earth metal ammonium) citrate of low solubility at a concentration of between 400 and 500 g./l. with sodium- or potassium hydroxide for adjustment to an alkaline pH, and adding to the suspension at a temperature of 40 to 80 C., sodium or potassium carbonate in solid form with intensive mixing of the reactants. The alkaline earth metal carbonate of low solubility that is also formed in the reaction may be separated by filtration and the excess sodium or potassium hydroxide in the solution neutralized with citric acid. The alkaline earth metal citrate that is used as starting material is preferably calcium citrate obtained as intermediary product in the preparation of citric acid from a fermentation medium.
