Abstract:
Dibenzazecine derivs. of formula (I) are prepd. by reducing cpds. (II) with a mixt. of B2H6 and BX3 or with a haloborane (R = phenyl protecting gp. R1 is not >5C alkyl). Pref. reaction is with B2H6/BF3 mixt. in a dry ether solvent. None given but some dibenzazeines are powerful analgesics. The use of expensive berberine as starting materil is avoided and yields are high with little tendency for (II) to undergo ring closure (which is the predominant reaction when dehydration with SOCl2, LiAlH4 etc. is attempted).
