Abstract:
1466138 Solid lubricants VAN STRAATEN CHEMICAL CO 19 June 1974 [21 June 1973] 27164/74 Heading C5F [Also in Divisions B3 and C3] A liquid coating composition, for forming a lubricant film on a ferrous metal workpiece for cold extrusion, comprises: (a) an inert vehicle which is water or an organic solvent; (b) a filmforming polymer or copolymer of vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride or epichlorohydrin, or a chlorinated polyolefin which is substantially non-corrosive to steel, in amount such that the composition has a chlorine content in bound polymer form of 1À5-30% by weight (wet basis); and (c) 0À25-10% by weight of polymer solids of a destabilizing agent selected from free radical catalysts and from compounds or salts of the transition metals, tin or aluminium. The coating composition preferably has a solids content of 5-50% by weight. The following compositions are disclosed in examples: aqueous emulsions of vinyl chloride-alkyl acrylate copolymer with, as destabilizing agent, (1) zinc nitrate; (2, 3, 4) cumene hydroperoxide/FeSO 4 / EDTA; (5, 10) zinc acetate; (6, 7) zinc chloride; (8) zinc nitrate/EDTA; (9) potassium persulphate; (11) zinc nitrate/tetrasodium EDTA; (12) cobaltous acetate; (13) cobaltous acetate/ tetrasodium EDTA; (14) stannous chloride/ disodium EDTA; (15) aluminium nitrate/ disodium EDTA; (16) zinc nitrate/disodium EDTA; (17, 18) zinc nitrate/tetrasodium EDTA: organic vehicle compositions; (19) chlorinated polyethylene in xylene with nickel acetyl acetonate; (20) epichlorohydrin polymer in methyl ethyl ketone with nickel acetyl acetonate; (21) polyvinyl chloride in cyclohexanone with molybdenum naphthenate.
