Abstract:
1280570 6-Methylene-steroids UPJOHN CO 21 Oct 1970 [19 Nov 1969] 50031/70 Headings C2C and C2U 3-Keto-#4 -6-methylene steroids are prepared by the following processes wherein R and R4 are each C 1-12 alkyl or hydrogyalkyl, C 3-8 cycloalkyl, C 6-14 aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl, R1 and R2 are each C 1-12 alkyl or C 6-14 aryl or -NR1 R2 is alkylene-imino containing 5 to 7. ring members or morpholino, R3 is C 1-12 alkyl, and X(-) is a halide or alkylosulphate ion, although these values are restricted in certain of the specific processes. II are converted to III by mixing with a strong acid, IV to III by mixing with a base, V to III by heating and VI to III by mixing with water. VI are prepared by enol etherification of IV, IV by quaternization of II with an alkyl halide or dialkyl sulphate, V by oxidation of II with H 2 O 2 , and II from I by the method disclosed in British Specification 1,280,569. The steroids can be ring-unaltered steroids of, for example, the androstane, 19-nor-androstane or 9#,10α-androstane series or the corresponding pregnane series, or the spirostane, cholestane, ergostane or stigmastane series, or ring-altered steroids, e.g. 17a-oxa-D-homosteroids.
