1447414 Polynary oxides E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 25 Jan 1974 [26 Jan 1973] 03657/74 Heading C1A Electrically conductive polynary oxides of pyroohlore-related crystal structure have the formula M x M1 2-x M11 2 O 7-z , wherein M is at least one of silver or copper; M1 is bismuth or a mixture of at least one half bismuth plus up to one half of one or more cations from among bivalent cadmium and lead and trivalent yttrium, thallium, indium and the lanthanides; M11 is at least one of ruthenium and indium, or a mixture of at least three-fourths of at least one of ruthenium and iridium with up to one-fourth of at least one of platinum, titanium and rhodium; x is in the range 0À10 to 0À60; and z is in the range 0À10 to 0À95 and is equal to the sum of the number of monovalent Ag and/or Cu cations and half the number of divalent cations. The polynary oxide, which is preferably one of the compounds Ag 0À5 Bi 1À5 Ru 2 O 6À5 , Ag 0À5 Gd 0À75 Bi 0À75 Ru 2 - O 6À5 , Ag 0À5 Gd 0À5 BiRu 2 O 6À5 and Cu 0À5 Bi 1À5 Ru 2 O 6À5 , may be mixed with a dielectric material, preferably in the proportion of 5 to 90 wt. per cent polynary oxide and 95 to 10 wt. per cent dielectric material, to form a powder composition which may optionally also contain up to 10 wt. per cent of a binary oxide (e.g. CdO, V 2 O 5 , Cr 2 O 3 , Mn 2 O 3 , Fe 3 O 4 , Co 3 O 4 , NiO or CuO) and/or up to 69 wt. per cent of a noble metal. This powder composition, which preferably has an average particle size of less than 20 Á, may be dispersed in an inert liquid vehicle for application (e.g. by screen printing) to a dielectric substrate and subsequent firing, to produce an electrical resistor.
