Title:
METHOD FOR PREDICTING BREAKOUT IN CONTINUOUS CASTING INSTALLATION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS58181458
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To predict the outbreak of a breakout accident surely by measuring the relative speed between the mold of a continuous casting installation and a solidified shell with a magnetic speed detector and emitting an alarm when the detected value is zero.

CONSTITUTION: A magnetic speed detector 4 is mounted to the wall of a mold 1 of a continuous casting installation to measure the relative speed between the mold 1 and a solidified shell 3. Since there is a relative speed in the stage of normal operation, an output is generated in the detector 4. When the shell 3 near the meniscus breaks out, the shell is divided to the shell 3a which is stuck on the wall of the mold 1 and the shell 3b which is not stuck thereon. The shell 3a loses the relative speed in such a state; thererfore, the signal of the detector 4 is nearly zero, then an alarm device 6 operates to predict the generation of the breakout.
